          Welcome to my homepage! My name is Shazzar, aka Imani (faith) on the internet! I am a Christian who runs for the glory of God. I was born in Houston, Texas in the Lone Star state, but I was raised in the West in a city called Long Beach, CA where the weather is always sunny. It's a nice place to live. I graduated from USC where I was majoring in English (Creative Writing). I am presently a graduate student at California State University at Long Beach. Do you want to see how I look?           I write poetry, fiction, plays, screen plays, songs, etc., hopefully you'll be hearing about me soon. Until then you can sample a few of MY POEMS! Here's a sample of a short story I wrote called Epiphany, it's about love! I plan to be even greater than my mentors Langston Hughes, my main literary role model, Maya Angelou, my inspiration, Sonia Sanchez, she reminds me most of my poetic-self, Mildred Taylor, she gave me the hunger to create, J. California Cooper, a master of the short story, Virginia Hamilton, my first inspiration and the first writer I ever met, Nikki Giovanni, a true poetic soul, Zora Neale Hurston, a master of poetic fiction, Toni Morrison, "Nobel Prize for Literature", need I say more?, Gordon Parks, a true renaissance man like myself, Alice Walker, her fiction is like reading poetry, Edwidge Danticat, a future great, and Octavia Butler, the queen of science fiction.

          I love MUSIC, especially GOSPEL! Some of my favorites are Deitrick Haddon & Unity Praise, a young minister and choir that takes gospel to a new level, Hezekiah Walker and The Love Fellowship Crusade Choir, an all-time favorite, Sara Von Davenport, a future gospel great, Trin-i-tee 5:7, the new gospel divas and my favorite female group, SOUL, my favorite gospel group at the moment, CeCe Winans, truly a woman of God, Kirk Franklin, want a revolution?, Fred Hammond & Radical For Christ, get your Holy praise on!, the Reverend Jackie McCullough truly inspirational!, Karen Clark-Sheard, her voice is one of the closest things to hearing an Angel sing, Crystal Lewis she has one of the most soulful voices in Christian music!, Marvin Sapp, he sings about God's grace & mercy!, Gospel Rap's Wu Tang Clan is The Cross Movement (they'll leave you blessed), GRITS, one of the best Gospel Rap group on earth!, Knowdaverbs, one of gospel rap's best, Out of Eden three young sistas in the Lord, God's Property featuring Kirk Franklin, Timiney Figueroa, she touches my heart, Terri Carroll, she brings new flava to gospel music, Kelli Williams, Jaci Velasquez, the virtuous women of Virtue, DeLeon Richards, and more!

          I also love reggae, some of my favorites are the great Bob Marley, the beautiful Diana King who sings my anthem "Shy Guy", Chevelle Franklyn whose voice is precious and others who live by the rhythm and the drums of Jamaica! These french sistas inspire mon amour, Les Nubians. Babyface is one of my mentors as far as R&B is concerned. I love Erykah Badu, she is beautiful along with her album "Baduizm"!, featuring the spiritual single "On & On"! I also love Ambersunshower, her music will take you to another world!, My lyrical female counterpart Lauryn Hill, The Roots, real hip-hop, heavenly DIVINE, these young sistas will win over your heart!, MYA she is so sweet!, Billy Lawrence, she's someone who brings me so much "Happiness!", a sweet young sista named Nicole, Gwen Dickey, the heart of Rose Royce, DeBarge, Jonathan Butler, Brian McKnight, Sade, lovely Aaliyah, 702, Tamia, and too many more to mention!

          The Holy Bible is my favorite book, but next to it is a book every African-American should have Acts of Faith by the inspirational Iyanla Vanzant. Jewel Diamond Taylor is truly a woman of divine inspiration! A great man of divine wisdom is Max Lucado. Synthia Saint James is one of my favorite artists! I love running track and field, and I plan on running in the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney! I also like reading, writing, and cooking (I can cook anything), some of my favorite dishes to prepare are Caribbean, Creole and Cajun foods, I think i'm addicted to spices! Some of my favorite dishes are Chicken Creole, Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Mango Cheese cake, fried chicken, Soul Food, and most southern foods, except anything that has to do with pork, I hate it!

          I love films. I'm a movie lover. Some of my favorite films in no order accept the first one are "Eve's Bayou", a masterpiece and my all-time favorite film, "Down In The Delta", truly magnificent, "BELOVED", beyond words, "SLAM", poetics to the fullest, "LOVE JONES", speaks to the soul, "Black Orpheus", one of the most lush films I've ever seen, "Shakespeare In Love", mesmerizing, "The Prince of Egypt", full of faith, "The Matrix", spectacular, "He Got Game", this film has heart, "Hav Plenty", cool, "You've Got Mail", computer love!, "TITANIC", speechless, "The Color Purple", touches the soul, "Rosewood", the truth, "Chariots of Fire", what true champions are made of, "BLADE", action packed, "The Negotiator", mind over matter, "Enemy of the State", thrilling, "Amistad", a lesson in history, "Fresh", the freshest, "SOUL FOOD", food for the soul, "Do The Right Thing", Fight the Power!, "Get On The Bus", united we stand!, "GATTACA", one of the best science fiction, "A Little Princess", a precious film, "Sankofa", freedom, "Contact", a test of faith, "Dancehall Queen", Jamaica I love, "Boomerang", when you know who you love, "Coming To America", for richer or poor, "Jason's Lyric", the power of love, "Malcolm X", a mentor, "Glory", true courage, "Higher Learning", unlearn, "The Apostle", Hallelujah, "Good Will Hunting", believe, "Hoop Dreams", believe in your dreams, "Nothing But A Man", real love without a doubt, "Set It Off", Sista power, "Superfly", cool!, "A Time To Kill",justice "Great Expectations", dreamy, "The Rainmaker", mountain be moved, "Carmen Jones", Dorothy Dandridge's finest, "Porgy and Bess" another Dandridge classic about love, "The Journey of August King" sacrifice, "Daughters of the Dust", beauty from the earth, "Menace II Society", truthful, "Just Another Girl On The I.R.T.", sista with life, "Secrets & Lies", the truth will set you free, "The X-Files Movie", I believe, "Car Wash", introduced the world to Rose Royce, "Sparkle" sweeter than honey!, "The Craft" thrilling, "Scream", terror with laughter, "The Waterboy", funny!, and too many more to mention!

          As far as film stars are concerned, these are some of my favorites: Angela Bassett, I think she's beautiful, intelligent, and a very talented actress! Jurnee Smollett is my favorite young actress. She now appears on Cosby. The great Bill Cosby saw her gift, and I believe she is destined for greatness! She is Eve of "Eve's Bayou"! I also love Denzel Washington, a good role model and actor, Will Smith, another good role model and actor, Jada Pinkett-Smith, she loved my poem "Pink Jade", the lovely Elise Neal, Kellie Williams, James Earl Jones, whom I've gotten so much inspiration from to let my voice be heard, versatile Samuel L. Jackson, beautiful Lynn Whitfield, lovely Thandie Newton, a wonderful actress, David Duchovny, who makes you believe, and my friend, the lovely, sweet and beautifulEbonie Smith!. I really admire Kasi Lemmons for creating the masterpiece that "Eve's Bayou" is! Thank you Kasi! I also have crazy love for "STORM", the only true Sista Superhero!

          One day I plan on visiting my ancestral homeland of AFRICA,. I love finding out info about my people, one good page to visit is Everything Black!. You must know where you're from in this life to know where you're going!

          There are few who inspire me and I call them my mentors: JESUS CHRIST, The Lord and Savior! Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a great man, James Earl Jones, a man that proves that greatness can be achieved no matter what one's beginnings are, Kevin Johnson, a great basketball player who gave me my first scholarship, Langston Hughes, the definition of a writer, Frederick Douglass, a man of greatness, Maya Angleou, truly magnificent, Malcolm X, a man of greatness, W.E.B. Du Bois, a man of greatness, Bishop Noel Jones, an anointed man of God who has a great ministry called "JAM", the Reverend Jackie McCullough, an anointed woman of God, Wilma Rudolph, she encouraged me to achieve by overcoming her obstacles in life, Michael Johnson, running the race of faith, Babyface, who taught me about chivalry, Sonia Sanchez, we share the same poetic essence, and a few more! I admire a young lady named Teyonka Parker who is an achiever like myself, because it's not where you're from, it's where you're going to in life under God's light!

          I love music, reading, and televison.
